Default material traders in Tyria?

Are there any material traders in Tyria? Are there any before the searing? It seems the answer to the latter is no. Can anyone tell me where to find material traders in both situations if they exist?

No material traders in Pre, but in Post they are (or should) be in all the major cities, such as LA (beneath the main storage), in Ascalon City (near the Dye) or Drok's (with the others).

Rare Material Traders

Material Traders

Artisans - can make materials from other materials.

I don't think there is a trader/crafter in Pre Searing.

Thanks. Is there a reason why they don't have them in pre?

No real need for them in pre. Well, they think there isn't any need for them. You can get mats through salvage kits, which you use to salvage either armour, or weapons in Ascalon.

There's no real need for them in Pre (no armour crafters), it doesn't work lore wise (Pre is actually separated from the rest of the game for mainly this reason) and Pre has a stable, isolated economy.

Well the capital city of Ascalon was Drascir, so maybe they only had them there. Then due to the searing and Drascir being lost, the traders went to Ascalon City instead. Thoughts?

I use the salvage kits and eventually get 10 wood planks, for example, and I want to collect something like 130 for them, like you would from a materials trader in Canthu (that's the one in factions, right?) instead of the 40 gold I get for them from a regular merchant in Ascalon City in pre-searing.

And there are two weaponsmiths.

Thanks for those links, when I typed material trader search in the wiki, it just gave me a definition of what a material trader is instead of giving me these lists.

Hang onto your materials until you leave Pre-Searing. There you will find traders and armor crafters who will make good use of them.

Pre has no traders as it has its own economy separate from the world.

Cantha is Factions, yes.
If you're collecting materials, you can occasionally get better prices from the Material Traders in post (but the do take up inventory space).
I keep forgetting about the 'smiths >.< They require not that many materials or gold, but it's not unusual to find better weapons from Hidden Stashes and enemies in Pre (or other players, if you have the money).

Edit: one missing word changes a sentance...

I was having trouble collecting enough money to buy an identification kit (with a new character) and without it, you get 2-3 gold for stuff that would get you 55 or so after identification. So once you get a kit, you're off to the races. The salvage kit is cheaper, so I was able to buy one of those and collect 10 planks. I was hoping to find a way to sell them for 130 ish.

Thanks for the help and advice everyone. I got a little spoiled playing a little factions first.

Merchant only pays 2-3 gold for stuff in pre, you won't be finding 55 gold stuff there, id'ed or otherwise.

*edit I thought those maxed out at 50 gold XP Anyway, the majority of what you find in pre is only 2-3 gold. Thanks for the correction Tatile.

Won't be finding items worth 55 gold? I've found items worth, due to an inscription (not inscribable, by the way, an 'innate' inscription) that bumps up the price of an item to the merchant quite considerably. With just two items with the 'improved sale value' innate, you can pay for your Id Kit and get a little bit of gold in pocket.

I saved up the unidentified stuff until my inventory was full and then figured out how to afford an ID kit. So I had a few 55 gold items that made the id kit pay for itself. But I didn't mean to imply it was all worth 55 gold.

There's actually a very good reason why there aren't material traders in pre-searing; if there were, it'd bring the post-searing economy into pre-searing, and would essentially ruin the illusion that you're in a different timeframe.

Generally speaking, though, hold onto the raw materials so you can make yourself a set of armor when you cross into post-searing.
